Jacoub Reyes is a multi-disciplinary artist currently working in Orlando, Florida. In his large-scale woodblock prints and paper-cut collages, Reyes explores the predatory nature of humans and delves into the effects of colonialism in the Caribbean and Middle East. By utilizing locally-sourced and found materials in his work, Reyes resists commodification of art in mainstream culture.
Born and raised in New Jersey, Reyes' background is a cultural crossroad—Puerto Rican, Cuban and Pakistani. Addressing Europe and America’s history of subjugation, Reyes uses archetypes to bridge gaps between separation and thought. These characters act as muses and offer a relatable counterpoint for the audience to connect the past, present and future.
